Fairport is about 25 miles east of Cleaveland. It's our second port. The trip over was WILD! The winds were gusting over 20 knots with 6 - 7 foot waves right on our stern. I swore a couple times I thought the waves were going to break over the back of the boat and swamp us! But the boat handled it MUCH better then we did (can we say hangover?). I was never so glad to get behind the breakwall into the Grand River. The marina we're staying at is about a mile up river so it's nice and CALM! We had a home cooked meal the first night and enjoyed a quiet evening onboard.
Saturday morning we decided to stay an extra day to relax a bit and see the town. We took off on our bikes to find a grocery store. Unfortunately, I did not ask where one was located...just assumed it would be down the road. About 5 miles and several VERY high hills later...still no grocery. But we did visit a really cool lighthouse on a hill. Then we found a marina where some folks were docked that Bill had met at the Battery a few weeks ago. We stopped in to see them and enjoyed a nice visit. The weather started getting nasty so they offered to drive us back (our numb butts were very appreciative!). Then it started raining cats and dogs. We read, napped, and were generally lazy. Got a call from the gang at Battery Park which was great. Lots of laughs.

In the evening, the most perfect rainbow appeared. A good omen?
It started on one side of the channel and ended at the "big top" tent at Pickle Bills.
We walked down to the famous Pickle Bills restaurant. It's like a Friday's on steroids! A wild, eclectic conglomeration of STUFF! The Tiki bar on the roof...(do we see a pattern developing?)...had SWINGS instead of chairs. Very interesting. (click on the link above for photos) Had a seafood dinner, expecting to leave Sunday morning.
But then, as they say "the best laid plans" didn't work out. A small craft warning today for 25+ knot winds is keeping us here again today. But that's ok. I'm finally caught up on the blog!
