After 9 hours of motoring, Cleveland finally came into sight. Really impressive from the water.
(Note: the trip would have taken only about 1-1/2 hours by car...but then, this trip is about the journey, not speed.)

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
We stayed at Edgewater Marina. Not the most elegant place, but what they lacked in amenities, they more than made up in personality! Tara, the dockmaster, was so friendly. She offered to take us into town when she got off work, rather than calling a taxi. Then she drove us all over, pointing out all the sights. Reminded me of a small Chicago. She dropped us off on 6th street which is sort of like the Oregon District in Dayton. Restaurants, bars, entertainment, etc. We went to the Blind Pig and had some mussles and called Daddy to let him know we'd made it ok. I could hear him smiling over the phone.
Then we went to a place called the Velvet Dog (must have been our night for animals, eh?). What caught our attention was that they had a roof-top bar. Walked up 3 floors to an interesting combination of African, Tiki and Aztec decor. Fun!

Entrance to the rooftop bar at the Velvet Dog.
As we ordered a drink I told the bartender that this was our first port in our great adventure. He got so excited, he started mixing us drinks galore! Margaritas, mojitos, shots of Tequila. AKKK We made the mistake of calling a bunch of people to share the fun. We call that "drunk dialing." (Note to self: drunk dialing is a lot funnier to the caller than the receiver.) We had a great time, but after a while, Bill had the good sense to say, "we need to get out of here."

Our enthusiastic bartender, Frank, with a couple of Cleveland Indian fans celebrate with us.
(The other guy's name was Rick. Sorry, but I can't remember the girl's name...even though we talked for a while. Her dream is to do the same trip we are doing. I told her you just have to plan to make it happen.)
From there, we went to a great pizza place and loaded up on carbs. Caught a taxi and made our way back to the boat. Whew! What a night! Cleveland definitely rocks!
