Ok, to really make this entry worthwhile, you need to start humming the song "New York, New York". C'mon...I'll get you started. "Start spreadin' the news...I'm leavin' today...I wanna be a part of it, New York, New York." (You can take it from here)
We left this morning for the 38 mile trip down to New York City. Oh my golly, I just can't believe this is really coming true!!!!! I get teary eyed just thinking about it. I can't tell you how many nights Bill and I sat in the hot tub and talked about what it was going to be like to see the Statue of Liberty come into view. And I have to report, the experience was even better than I imagined. I am just overcome with gratitude. I tell you, if you have ever dreamed of doing something, DO IT!!! Your dreams CAN come true if you just make up your mind and work toward them. Ok, enough of that stuff...let's get to the pics, shall we?
These are the 300-500 foot Palisades. "Composed of columnar basalt, this striking series of cliffs is named for its visual similarity to old wooden barrier fortifications," or so says the Waterway Guide. Personally, I kept thinking of the Beach Boys song of Palisades Park. Hey, Bill's the history buff, not me!
Several large container ships like this one were anchored in the Hudson on the way to New York. They look a lot bigger in person, believe me! They anchor out until they can load or unload.

Ok, kiddies, we're getting close now. This is the George Washington bridge. You can see the NYC skyline in the distance.

We went along the coast of Manhattan. Here, the Empire State Building came into view. Amazing. Just can't believe I'm seeing this from our own boat!

The Financial District, located on the tip of Manhattan.

And there she is...sniff, sniff...Lady Liberty!!! Ellis Island is to the right. This is where we turned in to get to Liberty Landing Marina, which will be our home port for the next few days.
Tune in for more details as the Ohio Bumpkins hit the BIG CITY!!! Should be some grins, eh?

Hey Bill and Boop, great photos approaching NY.
Did you get to sail into NY or have you been cruising the whole time? Looks like the scenery has been fantastic.
We've found some places on the Chesapeaker where you can practice the "Art of Gunkholing".

We think of you often. Your hair still looks awesome, Boop! Love your pix of Baltimore and Annapolis-- Take Care -- Cynthia (AKA Jersey Girl)
